A Positive Option: Family Friendly Music and Fundraising

Music Rewards Fundraising Offers Parents Value-Priced Music Alternatives for Age-Compressed Kids

Denver, CO, March 15, 2001 -- Despite public outcry against marketing inappropriate music to young people, the music industry has abandoned most kid-friendly artists and themes in favor of artists whose lyrics are often charged with violence and sex. Even Radio Disney, with a syndicated AM radio show for kids in major US markets, plays a primarily Top 40 format. The music industry has clearly turned the reins over to parents.

As girls everywhere emulate Britney and Christina and boys imitate gangland behavior, their parents find very few alternatives at music stores where kids' music is relegated to ever-shrinking shelf space. The industry seems to support age-compression (kids getting older younger) in American culture and diverts resources to artists who deliver mixed messages to ever-younger kids.

Enter Music Rewards Fundraising, a new company offering a wide array of family-friendly music to schools and other nonprofit groups for fund-raising. "Our products have lasting value, enrich the lives of children, and are priced reasonably. Between 40 and 50% of the selling price benefits the organization sponsoring the fundraiser, so everyone wins. This program is a fresh alternative to typical programs involving candy, wrapping paper, or imported goods," explains Grant Olson, President of Music Rewards Fundraising.

The Children's Music Program includes titles for kids of all ages, including the Billboard magazine charting hits "Kid's Dance Party" (BMG Special Products) and the "Wonder Kids" line (Madacy). Other titles, including "Monster Mash", "50 All-time Children's Favorites" and "Kids' Silly Song Sing-A-Longs" are selected for their kid appeal. While some of the best sellers are aimed at babies and younger children, older kids will enjoy "Sports Illustrated for Kids - Game Time" and "Divas of the Court - WNBA Soundtrack." Most selections are value priced at $8 - $10 per CD and $5 - $6 per cassette.

Katherine Dines, a nationally acclaimed kids' performer with six releases in her award-winning "Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta" music series, is spokesperson for Music Rewards Fundraising's Children's Program. "It is extremely important for parents to take an active role in providing children with healthy musical alternatives. This program helps parents support their schools and community groups while providing their kids with wholesome media that they will love.” The “Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta” products are available in the fundraising program and Dines is supporting the campaign with performances at schools nationwide and at U.S. military bases in Europe.

Along with the Children’s Program and Music Rewards’ selection from top-name artists for grownups, there are specialty lines featuring Christian, Latin and holiday CD’s and cassettes.

“Everyone loves music and we try to offer something for everyone. Non-profit groups want products that reflect positively on their organization and we allow them to select the type of music that they feel good about promoting” explains Olson.
